Is your net worth the same as your network?

Work your net - of magic - when you network with others. Life is all about networking. I'd like to think that your network could correlate with your net worth. Why not start thinking of who you hang out with. Are they helping you move ahead in life - are they serving a purpose. Do they help you keep on track - do they support you in what you stand for, what you believe in? Or the other way round? Are you helping them? You become like those you spend the most time with. Have a think about where you'd like to be in your life in about 12 months / 2 years. Have a look at what your life looks like now. Adjust who you NETWORK with and those people will be a part of your steering committee.

Just last week at the Lunch & Learn I hosted, speaker Kerryn Powell, was talking about the benefits of networking and how to do it successfully. We do it in all areas of our lives - at home, at work, at social activities, in the shops. Networking is all about building relationships. It's about building and creating trust, it's about finding common ground and interest. It's about serving and helping others and perhaps receiving some help from that person some time down the track. It may not happen straight away that you receive that help but it will come. Network and build relationships lovingly and consistently without the thought that you want something specific from that person - come from a space of serving.

Here are 7 quick insights on networking in your life and business:
1. It is about connections - you just don't know who knows who.
2. It takes time for people to have the need to need you - they might not need you now but later they will.
3. It is about supporting each other and creating opportunities for each other to be supportive.
4. In a business sense, plan and prepare and be curious about the person you are building relationships with - be prepared to serve
5. Follow up and nurture those relationships - don't just be a ship passing in the night. Be lovingly consistent.
6. Don't just make it about adding names and cards to your collection. Rather be selective.
7. Don't always think that person will or must end up as your client - he/she might just know the person who will become your client. Or you may be able to refer someone you know to that person.

What do you think? How do you build and keep relationships? How are you building your net-worth? Would love it if you share your thoughts!

Love and blessings,
Ruth
