How good are you at acting?

Yes, Acting! Acting out your daily actions. Today I am delighted to share with you an excerpt of one of the chapters in my latest book: From Misery to Mastery - Journey to Freedom and Empowerment. Titled Daily Actions, this chapter talks about the significance that building regular actions into our days, especially upon coming out of adversity, can have in our lives.

What we do each day in our lives sets the scene for not just that day, but also our future. By putting daily actions into place, we allow ourselves to feel safe within that routine. We build up our confidence, because we feel that we are in control of our lives and not someone else. By establishing a daily routine, we can plan to rebuild our lives to create a better future.
If we have set a goal, these actions usually depict the steps taken to reach that particular goal. Sometimes we have a really big goal in mind and we may think, ‘Oh dear, how am I ever going to reach that?’ By breaking it down we feel less overwhelmed and it becomes easy to achieve. The individual steps will help us feel more comfortable. The goal may still be a stretch but we feel more at ease. By setting yourself goals, you set yourself up for success by acting upon those individual steps to achieve that goal.

∞ Set your goal and revisit it every day
If you do not have a daily action plan, you might start to feel as if the ceiling is caving in on you, your world is falling apart and you are not in charge. We can also feel incomplete if we do not act daily on the things we want to see into fruition. Some people really thrive on those daily actions, yet it can make others freeze, if they are not seeing the results quickly enough. Nothing new will happen to improve the situations in our lives unless we plan to act.

∞ Consistency is key
You want to work towards a specific outcome. You should always have this result at the top of your mind, with some activities to achieve it – make it habitual. It is said to take around twenty-eight days to establish a habit. Over time, it will become second nature. It is like brushing your teeth. You do it every single day, twice a day. The act of going into your bathroom, putting toothpaste on your brush and brushing your teeth is ingrained into your subconscious. You do not even think about it anymore. As I establish daily actions into my life, I feel safe and good about adhering to a routine every day. I am not anal about it, but I stick to it as much as I can.

∞ Write out your plan of the things to be done
If you are a list person, you will love creating a plan by listing the things you want to achieve. You can tick the action steps on your list off as you go. At the beginning of the week, month or even year, establish the things you want to achieve. Write down what you will do every day/week/month – and be specific. Act on it and at the end check to see if you were able to achieve all the action steps. If you have not, carry them over to the next day or week. Make sure you look at the list every day, either the night before or the morning of.

‘You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.’
– John C Maxwell
